Rendell treble downs Southport
Scott Rendell grabbed a hat-trick as Woking beat struggling Southport 5-2 in an entertaining clash at the Merseyrail Community Stadium.
The visitors went ahead after five minutes when top scorer Rendell headed in Theo Lewis’ pinpoint cross.
Lewis got himself on the scoresheet in the second-half with a deflected effort just inside the box in the 53rd minute.
Southport immediately pulled one back when goalkeeper Ross Worner failed to deal with Matty Challoner’s long ball, allowing David Fitzpatrick to slot into the corner.
Woking restored their two-goal lead 10 minutes later after Giuseppe Sole sent a brilliant free-kick from the edge of the area into the top corner.
Defender Luke Foster headed in Stephen Brogan’s corner nine minutes from time to hand the hosts another lifeline, but Rendell grabbed the fourth two minutes later as he nodded home another brilliant Lewis delivery.
The striker completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Foster fouled Josh Payne inside the box.
