Brodie fires Southport to victory
Southport ended a run of four straight defeats and claimed their first away win of the season when striking late on for a 1-0 Vanarama Conference win over Grimsby at Blundell Park.
There were no goals in a tight first half, with the best chance for the hosts coming just before the break when Lenell John-Lewis turned sharply to create an opening but failed to get past David Raya with a low shot, while Richard Brodie was a handful for Southport.
The second period burst into life when Scott Kay was booked for a late challenge and Brodie and Scott Neilson were also cautioned after the ensuing fracas.
Southport striker Ross Dyer had a solid shot saved on 77 minutes, while at the other end Aristote Nsiala had a header cleared off the line, but the deadlock was finally broken on 82 minutes when Brodie pounced from close range after James McKeown spilled a corner.
