Jake Gosling’s stunner sunk struggling Southport 1-0 as Bristol Rovers moved into the Vanarama Conference play-off spots.

The winger picked his spot from the edge of the area after just 13 minutes to win it for the visitors.

Stuart Sinclair and Matt Taylor both had chances to add to the Pirates’ lead in the first half as they dominated.

Southport could not recover with Stephen Brogan and Dom Collins missing their best chances.

Their goal drought also continued and Martin Foyle’s side have not scored in their last four games – losing all of them – and have slipped into the bottom four.
