Two late goals in eight minutes towards the end of the game gave Southport to snatch all three points, closing the gap on the league leaders.
Southport had a glorious chance to score soon after kick off as Liam Blakeman played a ball in from the left wing to Michael Powell whose free-header went just over the bar.
Hucknall had the better of the rest of the half, threatening to break the dead-lock as Danny Mayman continued to deliver a plethora of dangerous balls from corners and free-kicks. It was no surprise, shortly after the half hour mark, as Mayman’s corner was only half cleared by the Southport defence to Jordan Hall who got the ball back to the Hucknall captain who delivered the ball goal-ward, for Bobby Wilson to flick the ball into the net beyond the unsighted Drench. Hucknall failed to let up, with Eric Graves going close a few minutes later, only to see his speculative shot go narrowly wide.
Southport again threatened in the early stages of the second half as Danny Holmes got the ball through to Michael Powell who saw his shot go narrowly wide. Hucknall themselves had a good chance to extend their lead minutes later as Mayman’s free-kick from the left wing being headed narrowly over by Sucharewycz. Southport slowly asserted themselves into the game, finally pulling equal on 73 minutes as Chris Holland played the ball from the left side of the goal area for Neil Prince to smash his close range shot against the bar, with the ball falling back down to Prince, with Robinson in close attendance, to pop the ball home. Eight minutes later, Southport grabbed the lead as Mark Duffy surged forward, switching the ball to his left, firing low to baffle the home keeper as the ball went into the net.
Duffy nearly added to the score-line in stoppage time, when he tried his luck from 45 yards as he forced Greg Smith to back-pedal, just recovering to stop the ball going over the line, but despite the four minutes of stoppage time, Southport held on to claim the points.
