Match Report – Press Association – 13/09/2014

Alfreton finally put an end to their winless start to the season with a determined 2-0 victory at Southport.

The visitors, with just one point all season going into the match, did the damage in the first 10 minutes.

Joe Ironside opened the scoring 90 seconds after kick-off when he was in the right place to incept a mis-timed clearance and find the bottom corner.

Belying their lowly status with some confident football, the Reds made it two when Karl Hawley drilled in low past Daniel Lloyd-Weston with his left foot.

Hawley was causing all sorts of problems and had chances to put Nicky Law’s men three up before half-time as the home fans became restless.

The away side did not falter after the break, and nervelessly used the platform of their commanding lead to close out the win.
