Dream start for Shaymen

Second-half goals from Marc Roberts and Jamie Jackson maintained Halifax’s perfect start to the new season as they beat Southport 3-1 at The Shay Stadium.

The Shaymen triumphed at Dover on the opening day and were in front again after 15 minutes through James Bolton’s low shot from 25 yards.

Last season’s top scorer Danny Hattersley pulled Southport level shortly before half-time after Matt Glennon could only parry a free-kick into the path of the striker, who smashed home from close range.

Halifax were unfortunate to be level at the break but they regained the lead in the 59th minute when Roberts headed in from Adam Smith’s corner, before Jackson wrapped up victory in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
