 Report from Press Association:
Shaymen stunned by Southport

FC Halifax’s play-off hopes suffered a setback as Southport secured their place in next season’s Conference Premier with a 2-1 victory.

The visitors travelled to the north west in fine form having won nine of their last 10 matches.

Top scorer Lee Gregory overcame a knock sustained in the win over Macclesfield to open the scoring for the Shaymen after five minutes, hammering his shot past Danny Hurst from 12 yards after good work by Scott Spencer, who back-heeled the ball into Gregory’s path. With 30 goals in 37 games, Gregory is the top English goalscorer in the top five divisions.

Luke George levelled matters 20 minutes from time, slotting home the rebound after Aristote Nsiala’s header was tipped onto the crossbar by Matt Glennon.

And David Fitzpatrick snatched the Sandgrounders’ winner with a stunning 30-yard strike before Josh Wilson’s injury-time shot was heroically blocked by Hurst to secure a vital win for John Coleman’s men.
