Last Saturday the Central travelled to Marsh Lane to meet the Bootle Wanderers in the second round of the Lancashire Junior Cup. The day was not an inviting one from a spectator’s point of view. Still a large number of supporters accompanied the team, and they were rewarded by seeing an excellent game. During the first half the play was very fast, and when the whistle sounded announcing that time had to be changed the score was even at two goals. Soon after the re-commencement the Central assumed the lead but Bootle were not to be denied, and put on a third goal. Afterwards, the game was in favour of the visitors, and as they registered two more goals, they passed into the third round by five goals to three. Bonrbatta, who shot in a poor assault, scored two of the goals. Taylor was also very near in front of the goal, but he was a trifle selfish. Horton and Fairham were as useful as ever, and Parnull played with good judgement at full back. Fornham, for some reason or other, seems to be nervous when playing with the first team, but in time he will get over that. Taken as a whole, the members of the team acquitted themselves in a very creditable manner, and the victory, after the defeat in the English Cup, was most popular. This afternoon the first team of the Central meet the Preston St. Joseph’s on the Senses-road ground, at 3:15. The following will represent the Central: Ingram, Sharp, Blenkhorn, Horton, Ackroyd, Lea, Taylor, Sowerbutts, Mullin, Grant, and Duncan. Reserves: Tyldesley and Aitken. Umpire: Mr. McGovern.
Today, the Central (2nd team) play Birkdale St. Joseph’s at Birkdale, with the following team: Guest, Walmsley, Pasquill, Evans, Blundell, Rimmer, Forshaw, Halton, Hibbs, Blackledge, and Bryson. Reserve, W. Rimmer. Umpire: Mr. J. Rimmer. Train leaves Cheshire Lines at 2:15
