SOUTHPORT CENTRAL v. FISHWICK RAMBLERS.
Lancashire Evening Post 24th November 1888
Played on the Sports ground, Southport, in stormy weather. Southport lost the toss, and kicked off against a strong wind. In spite of this, they were able to get very near the Ramblers goal, but could not break through the defence of Bailey, Bavarstock, and Howat. Naturally, play was mostly in the home quarters; but the Central men played such a capital game, and Ingram defended his goal so well, that at half time no score had been made.
Result-CENTRAL 3, RAMLERS 0,
Southport Visiter, 1st December 1888
Last week the Central countered Fishwick Ramblers on the Sports Ground, before a good attendance of spectators. The game needs no criticism, as the Central had matters pretty much their own way, and had not a boisterous wind been blowing the victory of three goals to nil would in all probability have been doubled. Duncan was never seen to better advantage, and his dribbling and dodging were worth going a long way to witness.
