Joe Turner takes the honour of scoring our first ever Non League goal. It was an efficient but hardly inspiring performance which manager Harry McNally said he was reasonably satisfied about considering the number of players out through injury and suspension.
The decisive goal came nine minutes into the second half and our Non League life was up and running to the delight of the travelling Sandgrounders who totally outnumbered the home support in a gate of 296 and who staged an impromptu pitch invasion to celebrate an opening day victory for the first time since the 1972/73 season.
