Chris was unlucky with injury, damaging his arm so badly during extra time in the 1925-26 Cheshire Senior Cup semi-final for Winsford United v. Macclesfield Town that he missed the final. He suffered an injury on his Southport début and managed just one further League appearance before briefly turning out for Middlewich. Thereafter his football was confined to the works team at Jolly & Jacksons, the Horwich bleachworks where he spent his entire working life. He lived in the same house in Blackrod for over 60 years and remembered playing at Burnden Park on the day of the ‘White Horse’ Wembley final when the score was paraded on boards at 15 minute intervals to the crowd! His son Harold won an England Schoolboy cap v. Ireland in 1950.
