Although he had only one League appearance for Derby County, he and his brother Don were among the six ex-Derby players in the Boston United team which won 6–1 at the Baseball Ground in a December 1955 2nd Round F.A. Cup-tie. Playing at inside-right, Geoff scored 3 goals though it should be stated that Martin McDonnell (q.v.) was injured just before half-time. Less happy was a 6–1 defeat for Loughborough United at Netherfield in the first round eight years later! A well-built, strong performer, he captained Southport in several games and, when switched from inside-forward to wing-half, proved one of the ‘finds’ of the disappointing 1957–58 campaign. He was granted a free transfer after he declined to live in Southport and spent the next decade in Midland League football, finishing up as a reserve coach at Boston United. He later augmented his coaching badge with special training to teach PE to mentally handicapped adults.
