He was spotted by Wolves playing for Stockport and Cheshire Boys and whilst at Molyneux made 44 + 1 first team appearances as well as gaining two Central League winners medals and an England Youth cap v. West Germany. His Football League début came against Arsenal in January 1962. He then moved to his home town team and played in 171 matches for County, scoring 20 goals, including 4 in one game against Orient. He was with them during their Championship year and proved a most useful player because of his versatility. He joined Southport as part of the deal which took Tony Field to Blackburn Rovers, being valued at about £4,000, but a cartilage injury in training in December necessitated an operation and kept him out of the side until April, and he never did himself justice. In 1980 he emigrated to New Zealand and by mid-decade had become assistant coach to the New Zealand National side as well as coaching Papatoetoe and Hutt Valley. He returned home in 1993 and has done some coaching with Under-11 sides and runs a Sunday League side. He is now in business, marketing sportswear.
