Charlie 'Chic' Coull

He was recommended to Jimmy Commins by Celtic manager Willie Maley whose brother Tom had previously managed Southport. He had appeared chiefly in Clapton Orient’s London Combination side, having just 4 games in their Division III South eleven. His Southport début coincided with their first League defeat at Rochdale for 8 years. He never regained his place after suffering a kick on the knee the following week v. York City. His last game was for the Reserves at Lytham on 2 November; the following week he re-joined Clapton Orient. Subsequently at Portadown, he was appointed player-manager in October 1937. Later still he worked for Dundee Corporation Transport driving trams and buses whilst turning out for Stobswell. After the war, he was in the Dundee team which lost the final of the Transport Cup to London, having seen off Liverpool in the semi-final.
