Tony Coleman

A real character, Tony was on the books of no fewer than 8 Football League clubs. His best spell came as a member of Manchester City’s famous forward line which won the First Division Championship in 1967-68 and the F.A. Cup in 1968-69. At Maine Road the fans called him ‘T.C.’ after the cartoon character, Top Cat. He joined Southport in mid-season after returning from South Africa. Although one of only five players retained at the end of the disappointing 1973-74 campaign, he became reunited with Jimmy Meadows for the third time when he signed for Stockport County for a £5,000 fee, along with Frank Lee and Norrie Lloyd. (He had also been with Meadows at Blackpool.) He finished his football career as player-manager at Macclesfield. He ran a café in Waterloo for a while but has lived in Brisbane since 1983.
