On this day in 1986 saw the second half of a bank holiday double header with Marine.
Prior to the weekend recent results had thrown any hopes of honours out of the window but manager Bryan Griffiths was still determined that his side would put on a final flourish. With Marine still in the hunt, a win for the Sandgrounders could still influence the destination of the title.
