Today we look at two games, the first a league game against Bishop Auckland in 1991 and the second a Lancashire Senior Cup tie against Everton Reserves in 1957.
1991
For the trip to Bishop Auckland skipper Kevin Mooney passed a late fitness test as Southport were looking to extend their unbeaten run to 7 matches. They were also bolsted by the return of midfielder John Bishop from suspension.

The win saw the Sandgrounders climb to second spot in the table.
1957
Back in 1957, Southport were looking to put their poor start to the season behind them and were hoping that a cup run would lift everyone’s spirits.
The return of Geroge Bromilow from the Melbourne Olympics shortly after Christmas signalled the start of a change of fortunes with convincing wins over Carlisle – to end a run of eighteen games without a win – and over Bradford Park Avenue on New Years Day. As Everton’s second string arrived at Haig Avenue there were much higher hopes for the new year.
