On This Day: December 7th

Today we look back to 2014 and a victory over Eastleigh in the second round of the FA Cup. The result set up an away trip to Derby County, the first time that Southport had reached the 3rd round in 16 years.

“Micah Evans’ second-half strike secured Southport’s place in the FA Cup third round for the first time in 16 years with victory over 10-man Eastleigh.

The visitors went in front when Craig McAllister beat Port keeper David Raya Martin to the ball and squared for James Constable to tap home.

The hosts levelled before the break through Richard Brodie’s diving header.

The Spitfires had Dean Beckwith sent off for fouling Mitchell Austin before Evans fired the winner from 15 yards.”
