Today we go back to the golden era of the mid-60s and look at the visit of Luton Town to an icy Haig Avenue in 1965.
Bingham was keen to impress against his former team who, had they beaten Southport, would have looked like real challengers for the division.
Terry McDonald who had deputised well in recent weeks for the absent skipper Alex Parker, was making a rapid recovery from a minor operation on his leg, but Parker’s return was well timed allowing McDonald the proper rest.
