Most people remember where they were on this day 20 years ago, when a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York brought the world to a stand-still. Despite the tragedy unfolding in the United States, the Nationwide Conference insisted that all League fixtures scheduled for that day still went ahead as planned. The Sandgrounders therefore had to prepare for a home game against Northwich Victoria. As it turned out, it was regarded as one of Southport’s finest ever displays.
