On this day in 1893 Southport Central faced Aintree Church in the Liverpool Senior Cup. There was some controversy over whom in the Central side was able to play with Aintree objecting to no less than 5 of the intended Central 11.
It was a high scoring encounter and a tremendous second half come-back from Central saw the game finish all equal at four goals a piece.
