On this day in 1962 Southport ended a very unsatisfactory four months with a most unexpected victory. Prior to November the outlook had been bright but then the Sandgrounders had struggled past Northwich in the FA Cup and with the exception of a handful of games the forwards had struggled for goals in the League.
