On this day in 1895 Southport Central reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time.
It proved to be a keener contest than many anticipated against Everton. In the Lancashire League Central had been flying high sitting only a point behind leaders Blackpool and the game attracted a record gate which was estimated at anywhere between 5000 and 7000.
