OXFORD CITY 1 SOUTHPORT 2
A GOAL in each half helped Southport deservedly pick up maximum points at Oxford City.
While neither goalkeeper had much to do in the first-half, it was the visitors who showed greater threat, with Adrien Thibaut’s shot wide from the edge of the area the closest to goal they got.Jack Bearne did have an early shot on target for City, but his effort was an easy take for Chris Renshaw.
However, on the stroke of half-time, Thibaut forced Darnell Johnson into a mistake, the forward able to run into the box to poke past Sam Lewis to give his side the lead.
Just minutes into thesecond period, Southport struck another punch as the Hoops were unable to clear their lines from a corner, allowing Jordan Slew to slam home, with Lewis rooted on the spot.
City looked for a route back into the game and Josh Ashby’s free-kick on the edge of the box crashed against the crossbar.
The Hoops did get a goal back with ten minutes to play. DJ Campton-Sturridge’s good run down the right saw his cross find Josh Parker for the simplest of tap-ins.
However, with City pushing for a leveller, the visitors did well to nullify the threat, and even push City into their own half, helping them to their second win of the campaign.
